The Officer Who’d Never Heard of PACE

— A recorded call by James Allan aka Asda Jim, WN8, Skelmersdale

In a call made by James Allan to the police this week, a troubling issue came to light — one that raises serious questions about the state of frontline policing in the UK.

James, who had previously filed a report through the Online Terrorism Portal on 12th
September, followed up after receiving no response for over a week. His report included
information relating to death threats, firearms, doxxing, data breaches, and politically
motivated harassment — yet, when he attempted to attend a voluntary interview under PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984), things quickly took an unexpected turn.

“I’ve just tried to go to the station to request a voluntary interview under PACE,”
James told the operator. “The woman on the desk didn’t even know what PACE
was.”

For those unaware, PACE is the cornerstone of British policing — the very framework that
governs how officers exercise powers of stop and search, arrest, detention, and suspect
interviews. It exists to balance police authority with the rights of the public.
The idea that a serving officer could be unfamiliar with it is, frankly, alarming.

“It’s been over a week since I made the report and I’ve heard nothing back,” James
continued. “The woman at the police station — I’m not being funny — is a joke. The fact that she didn’t even know what PACE was, which is the cornerstone of basic law in the UK, is despicable. She said she wouldn’t even take my report until I almost blooming recorded it.”

James added that he has also forwarded the information to the FBI, since part of the case
involves a US national operating within the UK.

Whether this is a case of negligence, undertraining, or simple miscommunication remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: when members of the public know more about the Police and Criminal Evidence Act than the officers behind the desk, something has gone badly wrong.
